Initially, Polygon Magic wanted to transfer Fighters’ impact to America and Europe, but in the end they came to an interesting consensus (probably at the suggestion of ThQ) that it would be cooler to make an alternative version of the same game with the same mechanics, but about gangs from the slum. The game came out, but – the most funny – became an exclusive for the Western versions PS1. Absolutely, the Japanese game did not come out in the east. Although, given that the developers did not share Fighters’ impact with other countries, this can be called an equivalent exchange. Okay, let’s take a look at you, at the time of the Japanese-American aircraft-invisible era of the era of the sons of the first 3d fighting.

The game was released in 1997. A year after the release of Fighters’ impact A. And during the development time it is worth paying attention, because if I list the shortcomings of the game, it is necessary to find a causal relationship for me. You use a special attack on the triangle, which can be cut down in the blink of an eye, but requires accuracy and time from you (therefore you will be open for the enemy for some time). And the square is responsible for walking in a circle and, in combination with other keys, captures.

Under the scale of lives is a victory counter with purple rectangles. On the left (or right, if you are the same gamer that plays only for the second player) there is a scale that looks like a crucible with an ever -burning flame. With its help, the hero has a chance to make a caount, as well as be in the block without harm to his health. And yet this is damn little. The number of blows does not affect the imagination. And the main tactic for each of the characters is the filling of a scale with fire and a successful Counter attack with the subsequent combo (which may be endless if you have enough patience for such a thing). Fight despite this is interesting. Undoubtedly, the game in terms of gameplay had great potential. But he was not developed. Made the game in a hurry and this can be seen with the naked eye. No storyline. Management is unresponsive, and even rather configured against us, because as you can explain two second delays after pressing the combinations and that the computer opponent fights without all these shortcomings? Many struggle styles are taken straight from Fighters’ impact with exactly the same animation without any changes.

The game has a lot of all modes. Choose for every taste, but, I warn you in advance, the color will be the same. Do not wait for extensions or new opportunities. Unless you decide to go through the “Challenge” mode, then in the end you will still find something new for yourself, albeit not unique in the genre. It is also worth noting that the developers tried to highlight the game by dividing the characters into four different groups. For an unclear reason – perhaps because one of these groups is just four different representatives of the college from old to young – the game aiming at the confrontation of the gangs has become similar to the classic of the fiting genre from Capcom Rival School. And moreover, both of these games came out not only in the same year, but also a month (November 1997). The only difference is that the confrontation of gangs would work only add developers to the game 2 to 2 mode. Instead, they provided the game with the “Exhibition” mode, which is the assembly of “Training” and “Watch the Computer Battle of Computer”. In this mode, you can play for one character with a computer and he will help you in difficult times showing how to play for a particular character (in words, in fact, he himself really does not know anything).

But, as I wrote above, they did not chase the new -fangled changes in the genre, but simply tried to remake Fighters’ impact for the Western audience. Japanese strangeness still remained, so I do not see much sense in dividing the regions and the allocation of the game with gang -up showdowns. If the East decided to make his hee of Trim, then, most likely, Yakuza would have turned out. Even with us all (I hope that you are not indifferent to him), the beloved Silent Hill, which the American Horror History of the City of the Ghost stands out primarily an oriental look at the horrors. At the very beginning, after all kinds of logo with the companies that helped to sponsor this game, we are met by the screensaver in which, not the worst performance of the model of the characters, silently argue about something with each other. The introduction raises many questions, but it was made for that year (graphically) not bad. Then we have a menu with all kinds of options and all against the background of a gray wall or asphalt. I can’t say for sure, but this is still not too beautiful and reminds me of a menu from the first Mortal Combat on Snes.

I did not notice any problems with graphics. Everything is approximately at the level of Fighters’ impact. Unless the angularity and business of the characters surpassed all the FI indicators. But is it a problem for the 1997 fighting!? No. Levels Well done. Clean. Nice to the eye. With good work of light and shadow. Each gang has three own locations from construction sites and lanes to Chinatown and stadium. In some places there is an annoying JPEG von Best of normal locations, but only in places. Being a designer of characters, this was my responsibility, to create a design for all characters, as well as sketches of their costumes. I also created victorious poses and names for all characters. Some of the characters were taken from my sketches. In other cases, I received an approximate description. For example, they told me to make a Russian taxi driver, and they became Oleg. Elements of a taxi driver-a yellow jacket and a black and white chessboard on the face that imitates the color of a taxi. I was definitely inspired by various fighting winging of those days, like Street Fighter and Tekken, but I tried to expand the topic already made and come up with original solutions to create bold fighters of which everyone had already seen. As usual, it is important to have a strong character to a girl. Instead of a typical Chun-Li, as a heroine, I chose, a female kung fu-practical, Rave DJ, mia dressed in a street outfit, such a one who is rarely found in the fights of that time.
Regarding various designs. Initially, I made a couple of designs in the specification in which I had complete freedom in terms of execution, ignoring the gangster theme, which will become an important part of the game. Characters such as Harold were vivid examples. These characters were later placed in other gangs, which were not much connected with them at first glance. In the case of Harold, I created it to be a universal expert on army martial arts. With a bandage in my eyes, I initially had to make you believe that he was actually blind. Nevertheless, my intention was completely different for him, so that at the end of the game it turned out for this character that he could see all this time all this time. The only reason because of which he wore a bandage is to ensure his participation in the competition, and to prove that he is much higher than all other characters. When the time came for them to place it in the gang, ThQ chose Campus Gang and called it "New Zealand exchange students".

Finding music is not easy. OST’Vs did not go out, because the search was released with purely manual work. It’s not so complicated, for the game mentions the names of songs. The name is nothing yet. You look at his terrible grips (there is an animated image below). In addition, in the game he is one of the few who adhere to two styles of the introduction of a battle at the same time.

In my opinion, the main composition was a success. All four characters look together as a full -fledged gang, even if Oleg seems slightly superfluous. In addition, the topic "Battle of Band" was worked out for glory. It can be seen that these guys are ready not only for an ordinary fight, but also for a real war. 16 out of 20 points street!

Kenny:
A family of classes: bodybuilder

Kara:

Mineo is a very strong character with all the strongest techniques tied to Aikido (partially taken by Vikram), but without a particle of what Oleg makes the same Russian duffel and taxi driver in the spirit of heroes from the game Crazy Taxi. But it is for the gang that it is suitable, at least by appearance. Joker, of course, it is difficult to miss. Now, if he had a reception of a locking enemy for an invisible wall, then not only a character, but also the game received everything due to her. Calucag:

Decay, to be honest. Circus of the freaks, not a gang of thugs from the beach. Everyone as if for himself. No team spirit. Only Kara saves everyone, but the levels at which the best songs that are only in the game play. 13 out of 20 points to beach.

Harold:

The bottom line: do students go in the form of an enemy intended for a fight? Do they wear bandages that are actually unnecessary to them (if the game would tell us the reasons in the game)? I tell you seriously, this is a great technique for everyone who owns Baguajan. It’s a pity what is called just “Low to High Combo” (performed as follows: down+circle, circle). My name is more to my liking. The costume for the second player is an ordinary guy without a bandage. So. And no plot is needed, everything is hidden in clothes.

O’Doul:

This technique is carried out like this: a circle, a circle, forward. But the most important thing is her crown capture. Cheap Shot, in short. A dirty trick to which was resorted to such stars as Johnny Cage, Nina Williams, Ann (from Kenssey) and Seong Mina. Yes, if you know all these characters, then you don’t even need to explain. Again, most likely they took and transferred the animation of one character from FI this, but it was fed up to me to list them so that I can only manage. Aikido is a complex martial art with slow attacks and bones breaking and interceptions. The heroine does everything possible to neutralize her opponent to the state of the vegetable (I will break the arms and legs, and then the head in line). There is even a reception with a long name, which is shortened: in the blow from the air with a palm on the head with an additional technique in the form of a fall on the enemy’s body with the subsequent blow of the elbow. Yes, it turned out longer, but you definitely understood everything, the character is not a mistake. "Overhand Chop with Elbow Smash": down-up+Cross, Cross.

Already better. In one team: two girls, old man and blind. Not bad, but from the point of view of the rating of their team, like gangs, far from the main topic. All this is more like Rival Schools than to war on the street. In this game, these characters are unnecessary, but undoubtedly notereeous. They are all remembered and this is perhaps the main thing. Forget about the topic and real pearls of the genre will open before us. Their design goes well with their combat skills. It’s a pity that only one team has two characters with the same Baguazhan style. The developers were completely obsessed with this style of battle. Such repetitions (especially in one team) are best avoided.

The bottom line: a boring character with an interesting style of the battle. Many of his techniques are performed through complex combinations, which is uncharacteristic for this game. Of course all these techniques are combo, but it’s okay. Also, if you press the cross and a circle at the same time, the character will stand in the hazel stand (on one leg will jump), which already had the characters with the same battle style in FI. The capture is difficult and you will be more likely to beat you than you will have time to do something (and in the end the enemy will be able to completely break out of the capture). Dragonsault Toss: back, forward, cross + circle. I’ll add more this: a cute fisherman in a gangster group? It looks, to put it mildly, not in its place. Even in the picture, he does not look very interested in the game.

Jalil:

They barely keep on their feet. In terms of design, everything is average. From the point of view of mechanics, it seems like also a middle peasant, but there are 2 characters with Tachwango and 2 with a street battle. This is already too much. Areas?
